This low income family children are preschool toddlers. Their clothing was donated by beautiful American boys and girls for free. All of the clothes come from childhood charity.

Their happy faces are smiling with the typical Latino smile of happiness.

There are a million and one companies selling cheap kids clothes and usually at ridiculous prices. The mark-up is obscene for most of these companies. Take Ralph Lauren for instance; their boys shirts are fantastic but cost between £20 and £35′s even though they are made in Bolivia and sometimes Indonesia. Now you can imagine how much they are paying per item to make these shirts in these countries. I don’t want to single out Ralph Lauren because they all do it. Next, Monsoon, Abercrombie and many more top brands have their clothes made in South America and the Far East in sometimes questionable conditions.

However, this doesn’t mean that they aren’t quality; on the contrary they are top quality and worth a good price, but not the top price that these big brands charge. You can get these same brands half price or less if you know where to look. So where do you find designer kids clothes online and at least half price?

Second-hand on eBay

Well… yep you can search eBay for second hand kids trendy clothes. It’s a very good place to look. The best way to get a bargain on eBay concerning kid’s clothes is to buy a bundle of clothes that are the right age group for your child. You can get some real designer clothes bargains this way. Some of the clothes may not be any good but if you get them for a rock bottom price… Who cares if you throw some away right? But if you’re like me you won’t be that interested in this method. I come from a very proud family and it kind of goes against the grain to buy second-hand clothes. I’ve worked hard so I want my kids to have what I didn’t have… quality kids clothes.

Branded Kids Clothes Cheap

You can sign up for the newsletters of main brand designer kids clothes websites and hope they have a sale or a great half price offer. Sadly, you will wait a long time and in a minute I will explain why. Did you ever see Ralph Lauren or OshKosh have a half price sale? No! Because they don’t have to because of the extreme mark-up on their clothes they make so much profit if they pull a line of clothes they don’t sell them off. They feel it will damage the prestige of their products if they have an end-of -line sale. Their main customer is middle to upper class and isn’t worried about money but is worried about quality, brand awareness and prestige. They tend to buy for their kids the same brands that they wear themselves and generally being high earners they tend to where high profile brands.

Where do all the end-of-line kids trendy clothes go?

This is the key to getting designer kids clothes half price or less. There are a number of small kid’s clothes companies that buy up the end-of-line and ‘overstocks’. What are ‘overstock’? With kids clothes there is always certain sizes that sell well in one style or another. This leaves the company with the issue of having in their shops a range of clothes that has a size or two missing from its range. Now a prestigious brand like Monsoon or Abercrombie won’t have a range of clothes in their shops unless they can provide all sizes. So as soon as a particular size sells out in a certain style, that style of shirt, trousers etc. is removed from the shops and sold off as ‘overstocks’. These are the best bargains you will find as they are brand new and all that’s missing sometimes is the tag. But you are still getting the same quality at sometimes less than half price. This makes kids trendy clothes accessible to pretty much everyone.

There is also bankrupt stock, some companies buy the stock from shops that are closing down at rock bottom prices and this enables you the consumer the opportunity to get a real designer bargain. Again with bankrupt stock the labels are sometimes cut to prevent people returning the clothes to a high street store for a full price refund. This is a legal requirement sometimes. But you can get cheap kids clothes online with labels and tags intact, you just need to know where to look.

What is it with designer kids clothes? The more up market you go the smaller and less material they use to make the kids clothes. Are wealthy people’s kids smaller than the working class kids? I doubt it! I’m sure they go to MacDonald’s just as much as working class kids. We have to assume that the designers at Gucci etc. earn well and have tiny children. Why does a 4T shirt cost almost as much as one for me when you could make it out of one of my sleeves? One of the mysteries of designer clothes I guess!

It’s always difficult with childrens’ wear to know what size to get in the different makes. Ralph Lauren kid’s clothes for instance come up small generally so it’s always best to get the next size up. Especially with the expensive brands as you want some longevity if you paid a small fortune for that tiny shirt or blouse. OshKosh on the other hand tends to come up big and is very robust so you do get great value for money from this brand.

Buying kids clothes online!

When buying kids clothes on eBay take the time to email the seller and get measurements if they aren’t on the listing. You will be amazed how different each brand can be in size. Especially, if the clothes are second-hand. Like our own clothes different brands react differently when washed. Some get bigger and some shrink slightly. But with childrens’ wear this can be a dramatic change in size. The size of the shirts I have to buy for myself these days a little shrinkage isn’t going to matter right?… but with childrens’ wear it’s the difference in it fitting and it not. On eBay you would hopefully be getting these clothes fairly cheap, so it is a pain if you have to pursue a refund and send them back. That £2.99 pair of boy’s cute trousers could cost £2.14 (Royal Mail) to send back. So you have wasted your time and money and these days you can’t afford to waste either. Just email the seller it saves a lot of disappointment. The good sellers will put size guides on the listing anyway.

What do you need to measure?

With tops and t-shirts its best to measure the chest across from armpit to armpit and then should to hem. That is more than enough information generally to buy the right size kids clothes online. With trousers and skirts it’s best to measure the waist and length from top to bottom. There isn’t any need to measure inside leg generally with childrens’ wear. There is one thing to be careful with when it comes to kid’s trousers and that’s whether they are cropped or not. Because when you see a picture of 18-24 months old trousers they look like older kids cropped trousers. So check the description carefully in case they are cropped trousers as it’s very difficult for people to take a picture showing they are cropped without them being on an expensive model. These days’ companies are ditching the expensive models for 2D pictures of just the clothes.

Most of the big companies have size guides on their website but usually very difficult to find for some reason. If you are having trouble finding the size guide check the bottom of the home page or map as there will be a size guide there somewhere. But trust me, don’t take a chance, always check sizes before buying to avoid disappointment.
